Overview

Day 1

MAKGADIKGADI NATIONAL PARK

MAKGADIKGADI NATIONAL PARK

Lake Makgadikgadi dried up tens of thousands of years ago leaving behind an area of salt flats considered to be the largest in the world. Two very distinct seasons mark this fascinating area; in the dry season from April to October one would be forgiven for thinking this area is completely inhospitable, but this is the time to experience the pans at their most iconic. Enjoy quadbiking in search of the desert creatures and lay out on the pans to watch as the night sky unfolds above you. In the green season witness Southern Africa’s largest mammal migration and the predators that follow. It is a place to walk with the San bushmen, spend time with meerkats and experience the desert by horseback. A worthy add on to any extended Botswana adventure.

Meno-A-Kwena Tented Camp - Tented Suite

Meno-A-Kwena Tented Camp - Tented Suite (2 nights)

Meno a Kwena isn’t a hyper-luxurious camp, and that's why it is so loved! No private butlers and air conditioning, but instead 10 classic tents perched on a 100-foot high clifftop overlooking the river and offering some of the best ‘armchair’ game viewing ever seen.

Each is classically-styled, with a few eccentricities thrown in here and there; think locally-woven fabrics mixed with colonial-style furniture, and simple fittings brightened by snippets of colour. All have fully-equipped ensuite bathrooms, and there are two family units, both with inter-leading tents (one with three beds for children, one with 2 beds), perfect for the kids.

Game drives in Khwai Private Reserve, a 200 000 hectare private concession take place in the morning afternoon. The Reserve is home to lion, elephants, wild dog and even the elusive sable antelope as well as prolific bird life.

A mokoro trip immediately slows the pace down and allows you to gently cruise through the water channels amongst the lily pads. Please note that these activities are water level dependent.

Head out from camp (with your guide) and enjoy a walk through the wilderness; this is a perfect opportunity to stretch your legs and have a chance to experience a new perspective to your surroundings.
