JOHANNESBURG

JOHANNESBURG

Johannesburg, aka Jozi or Joburg, South Africa's largest city and Gauteng Province's capital, was misconceived as a war zone. However, it's now a welcoming, optimistic place. Despite past neglect, it's undergoing impressive urban renewal, fostering a rich cultural scene. Originating from the gold rush, its diverse heritage thrives today. The city juxtaposes mine dumps with skyscrapers and townships with affluent areas. Its vibrant restaurant and bar scene unites people from all backgrounds. Johannesburg's allure lies in its rich history. Visit Maboneng Precinct for color, explore Newtown's art, trace Gandhi's steps, and discover Nelson Mandela's home. Experience rooftop cocktails amidst the cityscape or delve into the Cradle of Humankind, the world's richest paleoanthropological site.

OKAVANGO DELTA

OKAVANGO DELTA

The Okavango Delta, an oasis in Botswana's Kalahari Desert, fed by Angolan Highlands waters, lacks a sea outlet. It fans out through Botswana, filling waterways with levels varying seasonally. Covering a third of it is the Moremi Game Reserve, declared by BaTawana in 1963, preserving land for the Bushman. Chief’s Island, part of Moremi, hosts exclusive wildlife, the sole area in Botswana supporting rhinos. Surrounding Moremi are private concessions offering diverse activities like walking safaris, night drives, and mokoro trails. Combining camps in both the Delta and Moremi is recommended for a complete experience. Wildlife varies with water levels; expect impala, buffalo, elephant, lechwe, and sitatunga. Moremi, Chief’s, and Khwai are great for lion, leopard, cheetah, and wild dog sightings. The Delta is abundant with diverse birdlife and the calls of hippos—a true safari paradise.
