These idyllic islands are famous for their unspoilt beauty and diverse ecologies, with their pristine coral reefs being home to more than 2 000 fish species as well as whales, turtles, dolphins and the elusive dugong. The Bazaruto Archipelago area is simply a spectacular destination for diving and snorkelling.

6 islands make up the Bazaruto Archipelago, the largest island is Bazaruto, then Benguerra, Magaruque, Santa Carolina, Banque and Pansy Shell Island. The unique ecosystem of the Archipelago sustains diverse fauna and flora and visitors exploring the islands will find impressive dunes, forest areas, savannah and inland lakes as well as wetlands. The islands boast iconic, seemingly endless white sandy beaches, swaying palm trees and inviting turquoise-coloured waters, with some of the most magnificent sunsets in the world.

The coral reefs of the Bazaruto Archipelago are known for being incredibly varied and some of the least disturbed in this part of the Indian Ocean. Additionally, the dive sites are not crowded and the spectacular marine life is easily seen due to excellent visibility.

This protected area is also home to whale sharks and manta rays, with five species of Indian Ocean turtle breeding on the beaches. Sailfish and marlin are found in deeper waters surrounding, providing fantastic fishing opportunities.

Named after a local tribal chief, Gamelo Vilankuo Makeke, the small seaside town of Vilanculos is the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago. There are plenty of bars and restaurants with exquisite sea views and many offering traditional Mozambican cuisine. The area offers great fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving, especially as you head closer to the archipelago.

Just off the coast of Vilanculos, Benguerra Island is a jewel within the Bazaruto Archipelago. Known for its golden beaches, swaying palms, and translucent shallows, Benguerra invites guests to relax, recharge, and reconnect with the ocean.

Signature Experiences on Benguerra include snorkeling, island hopping by Dhow, private beach dinners and visiting local villages. Benguerra is also home to some of the most romantic beachfront lodges in the Indian Ocean, offering private plunge pools, personal butlers, and ocean views from every angle.

For travellers in search of off-the-map beauty, Nhamabue offers an emerging destination that blends luxury, wilderness, and total tranquillity. Located along the central coast of Mozambique, this area remains relatively undiscovered and is ideal for those seeking true seclusion.

Unspoiled Beaches, exclusive lodges, birdlife and biodiversity, make the area unique. Disconnect to Reconnect – No crowds, no stress, just the rhythm of the tide…

Nhamabue is best suited to couples, honeymooners, and seasoned travellers seeking quietude, comfort, and soul-stirring scenery. It is a place to unplug and rediscover the magic of simplicity.
