Overview

These idyllic islands are famous for their unspoilt beauty and diverse ecologies, with their pristine coral reefs being home to more than 2 000 fish species as well as whales, turtles, dolphins and the elusive dugong. The Bazaruto Archipelago area is simply a spectacular destination for diving and snorkelling.

6 islands make up the Bazaruto Archipelago, the largest island is Bazaruto, then Benguerra, Magaruque, Santa Carolina, Banque and Pansy Shell Island. The unique ecosystem of the Archipelago sustains diverse fauna and flora and visitors exploring the islands will find impressive dunes, forest areas, savannah and inland lakes as well as wetlands. The islands boast iconic, seemingly endless white sandy beaches, swaying palm trees and inviting turquoise-coloured waters, with some of the most magnificent sunsets in the world.

The coral reefs of the Bazaruto Archipelago are known for being incredibly varied and some of the least disturbed in this part of the Indian Ocean. Additionally, the dive sites are not crowded and the spectacular marine life is easily seen due to excellent visibility.

This protected area is also home to whale sharks and manta rays, with five species of Indian Ocean turtle breeding on the beaches. Sailfish and marlin are found in deeper waters surrounding, providing fantastic fishing opportunities.
